Heralding a bygone era of ball gowns, society and etiquette, our new range brings to life a modern design of the vintage French fan (éventail).
Our hand fans are practical as well as beautifully crafted. They are handmade using fine silk and painted light balsa wood. 'The Antoinette' is hand painted for Amonié by calligrapher & artist Marcela Staub. We imagined it sitting upon Marie Antoinette's dresser or fluttering around the grounds of Versailles.
Packaged in a handmade silk case, they make a beautiful, bespoke gift.
Important Care Information
Our fans are made from a fine silk fabric which means they need some extra attention when folding. As the fabric isn’t stiff, the fan won’t close well without a little help from you. Slowly fold and place fingers between the blades to get the fan back to its original folded position. You may need to lightly pull the blades back into the correct position until they are all lined up. To keep the fan in great shape, place the tie back around the blades when not in use, and keep the fan in its case to prevent marks from other items in your handbag!
Each fan also comes with tassel in a complimentary colour. All tassels are removable - simply un-hoop or cut the cord if you would prefer your fan without a tassel.
Fans were a once-necessary fashion accessory from centuries gone by. They were also the means to a secret language that has largely been forgotten with time. Depending on how the fan was held, coded a message to the receiver in a strict society where expressions were ruled by specific etiquette.
